Joshua Penn, MD, FACC, RVT
Dr. Joshua Penn is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Echocardiography, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at Brown University, completing his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Following his training, he returned to his native Los Angeles, and practiced cardiology for 20 years, the last 10 as Director of Cardiology for The Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation. During that time, he developed extensive expertise in disease state management, as well as information technology, EHR, and digital imaging systems. Dr. Penn has published many articles and abstracts with a focus on congestive heart failure and vascular biology.
Dr. Penn has also lectured extensively on topics such as congestive heart failure, HTN, lipids and cardiovascular risk. One of the most successful weight loss doctors of all time, he has successfully treated tens of thousands of patients in a career that spans over 50 years. His innovative combination of medication and behavior modification is the basis for our weight loss program.
Kathryn Goodman, RN, RNP
Kathryn Goodman, RN, RNP, has an impressive background in hands-on patient care and supervision. Her wide-ranging career has included service as a nurse practitioner in facilities that specialize in psychiatric treatment, family-practice medicine, occupational medicine, and women’s healthcare. She describes her approach to her profession as “combining the art of nursing with the science of medicine.” She served as an adjunct instructor at Keiser College in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where she provided instruction to nursing students in obstetrics. Prior to joining Healthy Steps, Kathy supervised weight-loss clinics in Los Angeles and South Florida. Kathy received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and psychology from City University of New York and her nurse practitioner certification from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Griselda Llerenas, MA
Griselda Llerenas is Healthy Steps’ medical assistant. She is proficient in both English and Spanish and has strong skills in customer service. She also has extensive experience in business software and is known for her grace under pressure. Griselda previously worked at DataDirect Networks as a customer-service representative, where she assisted in a wide variety of functions, including tracking sales orders, resolving customer inquiries and complaints, and training new team members. She is a graduate of Sylmar High School.
